DON’T SAY YOU WEREN’T TOLD

“And there will be signs in sun ancd moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken.  And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near.  So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all has taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.  For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth.  But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Luke 21:25-36

Tomorrow at 2:00 AM. There's a knock at your front door. You throw on a route robe and cautiously walk down the hall when a man, already standing inside, flips on the light and addresses you by name.

don't be afraid. I have a message for you that you might find hard to believe. But it's so important to your safety that I beg you to give it serious thought. I have come to tell you that the entire area will be annihilated in a nuclear blast on May 15th. I warn you to leave town before that date. If you want to find out more I will be at the Convention Center next week.

With that the man opens the door and leaves.

You're hardly back in bed when there's another knock on the door. Two men in white coats stand outside.

has a man been to your door within the last hour? One of our patients escaped.

In great relief you reply, yes, in fact he left just five minutes ago.

But as you lie in bed trying to go back to sleep, you keep wondering how the strange man came through the locked door...  and how did he know my name?

In the next few days you find that you are not the only one who received such a visit. Dozens of your friends had a similar experience.

And then some shrugged it off as a coincidence. Some could seem quite shaken.

And the designated day at the convention hall it's jammed to capacity. It 8:00 o'clock PM a man, whom you recognize instantly, climbs the small platform and steps to the microphone.

His talk is essentially the same as the warning you received a few days before.

get out of the city.

Flee... and don't wait until the last minute.

Of course the authorities have been tipped off and are gravely concerned about the danger of a national panic. And so, before the man has spoken 5 minutes, two uniformed police officers mount the platform and forcibly usher the speaker away.

A city official takes the microphone.

I don't know why all you people have come here, but I want you to know that this man you were just listening to is out of his mind.

Yet, reports persist in the ensuing weeks of people all over the city receiving these warning visits. A group has been hastily formed of people who have taken the warning seriously and whose one objective is to convince as many people as will listen to evacuate.

There are rumors that whatever the society meets this strange man makes an appearance. He speaks, teaches, explains what it's all about half out of curiosity you begin to attend their meeting in a hall in a rough section of town. Each time the stranger appears you become more convinced.

Finally, in late April, he says, don't wait around any longer period go

So the group begins to disperse.

some cross into Canada. Some had for Ohio. Some move West.

On May 15th at 3:00 o'clock PM in the afternoon you're about 100 miles away from the city. It's a clear day. Suddenly you see a ball of light in the sky and a towering mushroom mushroom cloud over what was once your city. And you fall on your face and weep.

These people who try to make Jesus out to be the great teacher and nothing more the great peacemaker and nothing more can do this only if they stay away from the New Testament. Where they're going to find out anything about Jesus anywhere else I don't know.

But the picture of Jesus we have in the New Testament is heavily colored with a claim Jesus makes for himself which makes it impossible for anyone to make him the great teacher and nothing more.

they didn't kill him because he was a great teacher.

They didn't kill him because he gave the scribes and Pharisees a hard time.

They crucified Jesus of Nazareth because Jesus of Nazareth claimed to be the son of God.

we have a law, and by that law he ought to die, because he made himself the son of God.

Or cat mom take the words he speaks in Luke 21.

And then they shall see the son of man parentheses talking about himself parentheses in a cloud with power and great glory...

Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away...

Watch, therefore, and pray always that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass and to stand before the son of man.

There are only two possibilities:

either these are the words of a lunatic,

Or they are the words of God the son.

If they are the words of a lunatic, then you're wasting your time listening, not only to these words, but to all of his other teachings.

If these are the words of a lunatic,

throw this book away and burn it.

Grab a few hours more sleep on Sunday morning.

Emancipate yourself from the shackles of Christianity.

don't come to the church to get married.

Don't call some preacher to read out of the Bible at your loved one's funeral.

Don't play around with Christianity for sentimental reasons.

If this fantastic passage in Luke 21 about signs in the sun and moon and stars, distress of nations with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring, men's hearts failing them for fear, and the son of man appearing in great glory... If all of this is the product of a diluted mind, then be honest with yourself to reject it all the way and start looking for reality elsewhere.

The other possibility of course, that people are often afraid to look at, is the possibility that these are indeed the words of God the son and that they will come to pass.

Now suppose you go through your entire life,

never thinking this through come.

Never really making up your mind.

You go to church once in a while and hear some man piously read these words of warning about the end of the age, and you never consciously disbelieve, and you never consciously believe, you just let them hang, then what are you? You're nothing! you're just as ill prepared, if these words turn out to be true, as the most flagrant Sinner who long ago rejected them out of hand.

Don't fool around with Jesus Christ. Either get down on your knees and worship him, and put your life in his hands, and obey him with all you've got, or forget him. There's no middle ground. There is no Jesus the great teacher Jesus the first hippie.

It's either Jesus Jesus the lunatic, or Jesus Christ, the son of the living God. And no other human being on earth can decide which he is for you. You have to decide.

All I can tell you is this:

Indent indent if you discard this Christ in these words of his that you have heard, fantastic as they may sound, without giving him a careful hearing,

If you if you mumble do yourself about hypocrites in the church and shrug off his gospel without giving him your close attention, you'll come to a day when you will regret it.

I can't convince you of the fact that Jesus is the son of God. No man can convince you really, but Christ himself, who is alive in this world, and is speaking and doing things, will show will himself show you who he is, if you will take the trouble to draw near to him and listen.

How do you draw near to Christ? Very simple: the first thing you have to do if you really want to draw near to Jesus Christ is to deflate your heart.

take heed to yourselves, lust at anytime your hearts be overcharged with suffering and drunkenness and the cares of this life.

Overcharged.

Twofold.

Weighed down with 1000 vain thoughts.

Nobody can think clearly when his heart is overcharged. Even if you're just all wrapped up in what people call everyday living you wouldn't recognize the son of God if he walked up to you and spoke your name.

The first thing a person has to do, if he wants to meet God the son, is deflate himself... Empty himself of his vanities and cares.

Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.

As long as your ego is 10 times too big,

As long as your idea of your own importance is out of proportion,

As long as you're so busy trying to prove whatever it is you're trying to prove,…

You will never meet the Christ who walks this earth among the lowly,

come down to size

Come down to what you really are

And when you're down to size, you'll find it possible to do something you were much too proud to do before. Now you will be able to call upon his name Jesus.

There is no other name under heaven whereby a man can be saved from all this corruption within us, and around us, and from the horror ahead of us. When you call upon that name, you get help.

keep calling upon that name, reaching out with your spirit to the one who belongs to the name: Jesus.

And one you've called upon his name, the final step:

Be still and listen for the sound of his voice

The Lord shall cause his glorious voice to be heard.

He'll not only speak, he'll make sure you know it's his voice, whether he speaks to you through the words of your friend, or your enemy, or through root words of scripture, or a voice within you.

And once you know that the Christ of God has come to you and spoken, all his words will take on authority... Even these fantastic words of loop 21.

And you will know that they are not the words of just another man, be he a lunatic or great teacher,

They are the words of God in the flesh.

You've heard the warning that time is growing short, that you need to be ready.

Now you have to find out whether the warning is valid, whether the one who gives the warning can be trusted.

And the way to find out is to draw near to him. Draw near to Jesus Christ.new line Get off your high horse and call on his name and see what happens.

The Lord will cause his glorious voice To be heard that... by you
